Happy Birthday to Me!

By: Ashley Verma | Published: November, 2022

Another year around the sun and I am always grateful for the journey.

Like everyone, the supreme highs and the self deprecating lows truly do hold who you are. On this week’s podcast episode I mentioned that I don’t have a fear of getting older, that I truly believe the best is yet to come. I do believe this. After I came to terms and overcame a rather traumatising rough patch in my early 30’s did I feel like I was reborn again, able to enjoy life again. Rikki would probably say it’s because I met him. Yes, I can agree to a certain degree but we all make our own paths, make our own conscious decisions. I do believe I have chosen Me, work on Me and Rikki was my bonus.

Turning 42 seems pretty meaningful. Like it’s got some real power behind the number. Not because it celebrates 21 x 2… UGH! I can’t even remember my 21st Birthday…. Wait, I can! I was on the national tour of Cats and a dear friend of mine at the time made me a ‘Little Debbie’ cake with Swiss Rolls, Twinkies, Snow Balls and Nutty Butters. Oh Mylata it was delicious! We drank and danced the night away in some gay bar in Ohio, tour life!

I do feel I have acquired a few full degrees from the ‘School of Life’ but still know fully well that I don’t know it all. My daughter is the first to approve this statement as she teaches me something new every day. My early dance days were always sought with perfection-seeking and now I fully have my guard down to be wrong, to not know and well, that’s ok!

While I can hand on heart admit that I admire and obsess over shiny Instagram squares of perfect family homes, flawless dinner time plates and the most jaw dropping ‘Mom Styled’ looks for the season, today and at this point in my life I have stopped aching for what others have. The big man upstairs doesn’t give us what we want. He gives us what we need. It can be happiness or sadness. Big time success or failure. I know I can’t purely control, dictate and for that I can surrender.

With this new birthday, new movement forward around the sun. I plan to embrace it further and deeper with ‘I Am Enough’. Flaws and all I am braver to take it on as a Mom, a Wife and truly simply, Me.

A huge THANK YOU to all that are on this wild Bizzimumzi journey with us. It has truly been the best gift! xx
